Board-certified OB/GYN

Pat Chaney, MD

Dr. James Patrick “Pat” Chaney, MD, is an OB/GYN practicing in our Amory and Columbus offices. He joined P&S in 1989.

Dr. Chaney originally went to college planning to be a basketball coach and science teacher. After a failed career as equipment manager for the basketball team, he found himself drawn to science and eventually the challenge of medical school. It wasn’t long before he felt the call to OB/GYN.

“I liked surgery, and I liked caring for people’s health. Then I discovered you could do both.” He quickly fell in love with the joy of delivering new babies and performing successful surgeries.

Dr. Chaney is well-known for his ability to connect with his patients. One of the best parts of his day is seeing a familiar name on his schedule and getting to catch up with patients he’s known a long time.

“My patients and I are a team. We share the decision making. We share life stories. We share the journey toward better health.”

He also feels a responsibility to serve his fellow OB/GYN physicians and has been very active in the MS section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, serving in various positions, including Chair.

In addition to caring for pregnant mothers and delivering babies, Dr. Chaney is particularly interested in infertility, pelvic support repair, and robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

When not at home with his wife, Susan, their three sons, and their grandchildren, Dr. Chaney can typically be found at a Mississippi State ball game. He is active in his church and enjoys biking and listening to audiobooks. He also enjoys fly fishing, but he is quick to note that it can rarely be called “catching.”

“Dr. Chaney has always been so helpful, kind, patient, and informative. He is always willing to answer any questions that my wife and I have regarding our pregnancy. I would recommend him to any first time parents that are nervous and don’t know what to expect. Even when there were health concerns he was always tactful and direct without alarming us or sugar coating the news. The has the perfect blend of care and concern. We drive 50 minutes one way just to go to him because he is that good, totally worth it. Excellent Doctor” – Austin K.
